Hooked

Once I started reading the essay "Hooked," I literally was hooked.  The first few lines of the story create a mystery for the reader, describing an uncommon event in a way that does not fully reveal what is going on. This was a good way to grab my attention. As the essay continues, the story restarts from the beginning, describing the events leading up to what has already been described in the opening paragraph.  This story telling technique continues to hold the reader's attention, as I felt obligated to finish this intriguing piece.  Also, I could relate to the feelings of a ten year old boy who wants to explore the world outside his house. The essay has a lot of sensory details that describe very specifiically the scenery in this woods-like place. Descriptions such as "tall grassy fields" and "new, shiny, red and silver mountain bike" are very concise descriptions of the setting.  Also, the writer includes many descriptions of the types of fish he catches and the diferent types of lures he uses.  At the end, the writers tells about the loss of his fishing equipment, yet decides to restart because of the life-changing phase he went through when he was a little boy.

A Practiced Grace Response

In the essay "A Practiced Grace," the calm and peace of the barista in the coffee shop create a mood of comfortable repetitiveness.  When customers approach her, she accepts their order kindly and begins to make the coffee without a thought.  She even makes small talk with a regular customer while her hands are busy.  The intervals between customers are filled with cleaning and sweeping, both of which are simple tasks. Even with a line of customers waiting on her, she continues her job with grace, lending itself to the serenity of the essay. Her movements have a "steady sureness" and she seems to the reader very confident and secure in her environment, like she "belongs here." The author likens her job to that of breathing, which creates a peaceful mood for the reader because of the simplicity of both actions. At the end, descriptions of the view from inside the coffee shop compare two different worlds. The outside world is filled with soccer moms hustling about and a man carrying various items briskly in the cold, while the inside world acts as an escape for businessmen and has a pleasant, warm aroma. These words contribute to the essays relaxing tone by using sensory deteails which allow the reader to imagine what the barista's life is like.

No School!

I am excited, just like everyone else, that there is no school. Now I can actually practice my trumpet and just relax today. I had to take my sister to a friend's house, but I might also have a friend come over to mine. When I was driving back from dropping off my sister I tried to fishtail a bunch in the roads. It a little dangerous but it's fun to do every so often. I've actually done a complete 180 degree turn on a road while practicing fishtails and had to take a long route back to my house because I didn't want to turn around again. My room is kind of a mess because I was searching for my ipod to listen to last night and couldnt find it until I looked under this pile of stuff on my desk and found it. Lots of playing cards are on the ground, oh well. Time to go watch some tv and probably play some video games.

another one already?

Yeah I know its my third blog of the day. People must think im crazy, but theres not much else to do. Usually I would go to bed soon but there is a two hour delay tomorrow and I'm really not expecting school tomorrow. There actually were no smores tonight because there werent any graham crackers or marshmallows! I did end up eating almost the entire chocolate bar, and it was one of those big ones, not your usual candy bar. I also had to take out the trash this late because I forgot. Luckily my phone reminded me, but I went outside wearing shorts and boots. I got some snow in the boots because I didnt tie them and it was cold, but its still snowing which is great for my assumption about tomorrow. That's all for now.

Lmaonnaise?

If my URL looks weird, thats cuz it is, but there is a reason behind it. One day with a friend we were coming up with funny sayings like roflstomper or lolcano, so I came up with lmaonnaise. It's lmao and maonnaise combined!

And its only Tuesday...

Hey, it's Tuesday and the week isnt going very well. My legs hurt from running yesterday and I have to walk up and down the stairs 3 times a day to get to my classes. Not very fun. The cancellation of after school activities was a nice gift, but it did take away from my trumpet playing time. I brought it home to practice but it's too late now since I had to go with my dad to get another tire for my truck. Once back home we shoveled our driveway, some of the sidewalk, and our neighbor's driveway. Then we borrowed a different neighbor's lift thing, took the first tire off, and as we started to take off the second, the lugnuts were being difficult. He even got out a hammer and hit the lever as hard as he could but it would not come off, even after several applications of WD-40. After so many attempts the lugnut actually ended up being worn down and possibly even bent. He had to drive back to the tire store after putting the tire and lugnuts back on, and by the time he got home it was dinner time. Which brings us to now. Currently my parents are making a fire in the fireplace and there is a possibility for us to have smores (us being me and my 3 sisters). Luckily, I still have all of my mega large Hershey's chocolate bar left from Christmas so I will be able to make as many as I want. Chocolate is usually the limiting reagent in our household when it comes to smores making. Anyways, tomorrow is a fairly special day for me =] not extremely special but it is an important monthly date. Tomorrow is the day that my girlfriend and I have been dating for 10 months. I'm not sure how much any of you are actually interested in that fact, but I put it in there mostly for her. If you ARE reading this, thank you for checking out my site and I hope you like it.

This is a picture I found on Google. I think it looks pretty cool. I searched for "supernova." It doesn't really represent a supernova because it would be highly unlikely for planets to be that close to a star large enought to go supernova. Kinda looks like the aurora borealis.

The Actual Assignment

The essay "Ground Zero" emphasizes the fact that anyone can mourn a tragic event without having any direct connection to the event. Even though Berne had not lost any family members to the attacks on the World Trade Center, she still paid her respects to the people who did. While visiting, she sees many other people from different ethnic groups paying their respects as well. These people also may not have any direct connection to the loss that occured at Ground Zero, yet still they were there. One old man in the crowd even recalls when the buildings were being constructed, when there was originally nothing, and now there is nothing again, but it is a different kind of nothing. Also, when Berne is eating at the diner, there is a commotion outside where it seems a body is being carried to an ambulance. Everyone in the dining room stopped what they were doing to stand up. They were either examining the situation or being respectful of the undeclared ceremony, but nonetheless, the people around Ground Zero were mourning this additional small loss with which they have no direct connection.

Post I guess

I'm kinda mad right now. Lots of stuff didnt go well after school, although school itself went better than I expected. I kinda thought that when Mr. Hill said the blog post is due on monday, it could be typed ON monday, but most people typed it sunday night, so that will be my next post.  I would say what I am mad about but that could reveal my identity, which hopefully it hasnt been revealed already. In fact the more I type, the more likely it is that someone will figure it out. Honestly though, not many people know me. I know most of the people in our class, or at least know their names, but hardly anyone knows mine. Anyways, I'm going to stop typing here so i can start my next one which is the actual assignment. Then I might learn how to actually navigate this blogger thing.
